Why They Usually Don't Work

There is nothing more frustrating and stressful than getting all excited about a new weight loss plan, sticking strictly to the plan, and still not experiencing any loss of weight. There are even times when you may have found that you actually gained weight while on a diet. Most times when either of these two outcomes occur, the individual on the diet blames themselves. They think that they did not have enough willpower, that they did not commit to the diet, or that they did something incorrect.

If you are one of those individuals, it is important for you to realize that the reason the diet didn’t work, even though you followed every step, is simply and honestly not your fault. The reasons that diets don’t work are well researched and make a lot of common sense. If you feel that you may have done something to cause your weight loss plan to fail, keep reading.

Overly restrictive

Diets all include a restrictive type of menu or choice of foods. They usually include dramatically cutting down or completely eliminating certain foods from your intake. This may mean a dangerously low calorie diet, low fat or low carbohydrate program. The problem with many of these diets is that they simply cannot be maintained for the length of time that extremely obese people need to be on them to lose the weight they need to. If you need to lose 100 pounds, and are safely able to lose 2-5 pounds a week you will have to maintain the diet for at least 20 weeks. That is over 5 months at the very minimum. Not only is this unhealthy but the cravings will increase and hormonal changes will occur and you lose weight that will make it virtually impossible to say on this program no matter what your level of willpower is.

Incorrect training

Weight loss plans often train you how to eat the pre-packaged foods, or how to each from a select few recipes at your house. What they don’t help you with is how to understand substitution, eating out, or dining at a friends. Because you don’t have any training you make incorrect choices that are beyond your control and lead to poor results.

Yo-Yo effect

Every time you lose weight and gain it back it gets harder to lose again. In addition usually when you lose and then gain the end result is that you weigh more than you did before the previous loss. This is your body’s way of trying to compensate and reach the balance it requires due to misinformation from hormones and other body chemicals.

Metabolic slow-down

The more you restrict your diet the more that your overall metabolism slows. The more your metabolism slows the fewer calories you will burn during the average day. This means that you may actually increase in weight on a diet unless you add increasing amounts of physical activity. If you try to just keep decreasing intake your body will just keep slowing down burning the calories.

Physical fatigue

When your body is not receiving enough calories and carbohydrates it starts to actually use and breakdown muscle to meet its needs. This process causes a decrease in the amount of physical energy you have, especially if it occurs with the general metabolic slowdown. The resulting lack of energy makes in almost impossible to become motivated to exercise.

While you may have tried diets before and blamed yourself it they didn’t work, it is important to keep in mind that there are many different reasons why diets won’t work, and have nothing to do with your desire or ability to lose weight.

I have tried every freakin diet known to man it seems but invariably don't succeed in losing weight. However, have you heard of Burn the Fat?
